RICE BOWLS

Last LENT we counted a total of $2,554 from the Rice Bowls parishioners brough in. Five hundred dollars came from a direct donation to the parish and this money will remain in our emergency fund. The remaining $2,054 was sent to Catholic Relief Services which serves the hungry and the poor of the world. Thank you to all who made this amount possible. It is the largest amount that we have ever collected in Rice Bowls.

MAKE YOUR CHOICE, COME AND PRAY WITH US THIS YEAR

During the summer, we are offering five Masses each weekend instead of six.

  • Our Saturday evening Mass at 5 PM always attracts many of our elderly parishioners. They would prefer the Mass at 4 PM but 5 PM has been the time for many years now. We play the organ at this Mass.
  • The Sunday morning 7:30 AM Mass is the only Mass with no music except for ten times a year when the feast cries out for music.
  • The 9 AM Sunday Mass has always been known as the family Mass. We encourage parents to bring their children to this Mass. We take the children from grades 1 to 6 out to the parish center for the Liturgy of the Word. There they have their own service and homily and they return at the offertory to join their parents. After Mass there is coffee and donuts in the parish center for all.
  • The Sunday 10:30 Mass is the most formal of all our Masses with the parish choir and the organ supplying the music. If there are special ceremonies required, they usually happen at this Mass.
  • The 12 noon Sunday Mass is for the late risers and is a much more relaxed Eucharist. Music is provided by the piano and a cantor. We have many of our baptisms at this Mass since it is convenient for families with relatives traveling here for the Baptism. We find this to be a popular Mass for many parishioners.(including our webmaster). We don't have noon Mass during the summer months when we offer only 5 Masses on weekends.
  • The Sunday evening 6:30 PM Mass is popular with the teenage and young adults of the parish. Religious Education classes follow after the Mass. We have a number of groups providing music at this Mass, but the contemporary folk group is the most popular. We like to rock the place a little in praise of the Lord.

RCIA  ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CATHOLIC?

Perhaps you are reading this even though you are not a Catholic. Maybe you are married to a Catholic, or maybe for some reason you enjoy attending services in our church. Whatever the reason, we would like to issue you an invitation to explore the possibility of becoming a Catholic. We will be starting another session in the early Fall of our RCIA program and we would be happy to have you as a part of it. The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) has been going on in our parish for many years. It has been the way many, many people have come into the church. It does take time and effort although there is never any pressure to have anyone join the church. Rather the emphasis is whether or not you feel God is calling you to make this step. For more information, call Mary Sanning at 508-898-0941.
