John Boyle O’Reilly Knights of Columbus Council #85 was chartered by the Supreme Council on January 7, 1894. Its members have been an active part of St. Luke’s parish life for over a century! All Knights are dedicated to charitable works and its members are active in many ministries in the parish, as ushers, lectors, adult altar servers, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Eucharist.
Their Annual Charity Golf Tournament is an example of how they raise funds that help to support the many charitable efforts such as scholarships and awards presented to C.C.D. and high school graduates. Knights look forward to the summer and Christmas parties at the Worcester State Hospital for the benefit of adolescent children, and donations to various charities Every year the Council enjoys building the outdoor crèche at the beginning of the Advent season. One of the most popular events is the basketball free throw contests for girls and boys ages 9-14 held each January.
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to all Catholic men. There are almost 2 million members worldwide. In 2016, all Knights reported record levels of charity, with over $177 million in donations and over 75 million hours of volunteer service.
